Client Upload Links
Generate secure links that allow clients to upload documents without creating an Infera account.
Want a live checklist that shows what's missing?
A basic upload link is a simple drop box. To request specific items and track exactly what's been received — period by period — use a Document Request instead. Your client gets a guided page that updates in real time and shows precisely what's still missing as they upload. See The Client Upload Experience.
What Are Client Upload Links?
Client upload links let you:
- Request documents from clients without them needing to sign up
- Receive files directly into a specific folder in your Infera account
- Track when uploads are received
- Set expiration dates and upload limits
This is perfect for collecting documents from clients who aren't tech-savvy or don't want to create yet another account.
Creating an Upload Link
Each matter automatically has an upload link. To find and share it:
- Open the matter
- In the Matter Overview, find the Upload Link field
- Click the link to copy it to your clipboard
- Share the copied link with your client
Upload Link Settings
Link Name
Give the link a descriptive name so you can identify it later:
- "Smith Case - Financial Documents"
- "Johnson Divorce - Tax Returns"
Expiration
Set when the link stops working:
- 7 days - Good for urgent document requests
- 30 days - Standard timeframe
- 90 days - For longer collection periods
- Never - Link stays active until you disable it
- Custom date - Pick a specific expiration date
Upload Limits
Control how many files can be uploaded:
- Unlimited - No restrictions
- Single file - Only one upload allowed
- Custom limit - Set a specific number (e.g., 10 files)
Allowed File Types
Restrict what types of files can be uploaded:
- All types - Accept any supported file type
- Documents only - PDF, DOC, DOCX
- Images only - JPG, PNG, GIF
- Custom - Select specific file types
Notifications
Choose to receive an email when:
- A file is uploaded
- The upload link is accessed (even without upload)
Sharing the Link with Clients
Once created, share the link via:
- Email - Copy and paste into an email
- Text message - Send the link via SMS
- Client portal - Include in your existing client communications
The client simply clicks the link, selects their files, and uploads. No account required.
What Clients See
When a client visits the upload link, they see:
- Your firm name and logo, in your firm's colors — see Branding Your Client Portal
- The folder name (optional - can be hidden)
- Instructions you've provided
- A simple drag-and-drop upload area
- Upload progress and confirmation
Viewing Uploads
Documents uploaded via the link appear in the matter's Documents tab. To view them:
- Open the matter
- Click Documents in the matter sidebar
- Uploaded files will appear in the document list
Best Practices
- Use descriptive names - Makes it easy to track multiple links
- Set reasonable expirations - Don't leave links active forever
- Enable notifications - Know immediately when documents arrive
- Provide clear instructions - Tell clients exactly what you need
- Follow up - If no uploads after a few days, remind your client
