Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Infera.

Getting Started

How do I create an account?

Visit inferalaw.com, click Sign Up, and follow the prompts. You'll need to verify your email address before you can start using Infera.

How do I join an existing firm?

Ask an admin at your firm to send you an invitation. You'll receive an email with a link to join. If you already have an Infera account, you'll be added to the firm. If not, you'll create an account during the process.

Documents

What file types can I upload?

Infera supports PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, CSV, TXT, RTF, JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and ZIP files.

Is there a file size limit?

Individual files can be up to 100 MB. For larger files, consider compressing them or splitting into parts.

How do I organize my documents?

Create folders to organize documents by client, case, date, or any system that works for you. See Organizing with Folders.

Can I search inside documents?

Yes! Infera indexes the content of your documents, so you can search for text within PDFs, Word documents, and more. Scanned documents are processed with OCR.

Why does the documents list only show some of my files?

The list shows the files you uploaded. If a file actually contains several documents — for example, a single PDF with six months of bank statements — Infera automatically splits it into individual documents behind the scenes. Expand the uploaded file's row to see everything Infera found inside it. See Viewing Documents.

Why is one of my uploads marked "Duplicate"?

If you upload a file that is identical to one already in the matter, Infera keeps it but marks it Duplicate and skips re-processing it, so the same data isn't pulled into affidavits twice. The file stays visible and downloadable, with a Duplicate of line showing which upload it matches. See Viewing Documents.

Can I sync documents with Google Drive or Dropbox?

Yes. Connect your firm's Google Drive or Dropbox account from a matter's Documents tab, then bind the matter to a folder to sync documents both ways. See Google Drive & Dropbox Sync.

Sharing

How do I share a document with a client?

Select the document, click Share, enter the client's email, set permissions, and send. They'll receive an email with a secure link. See Sharing Documents.

Can clients upload documents without an account?

Yes! Create a client upload link and share it with your client. They can upload files without signing up for Infera. See Client Upload Links.

How do I request specific documents and track what's missing?

Use a Document Request. Open a matter, click Document Requests in the sidebar, and create a request with a checklist of the items you need. The client gets a secure link and a live checklist, and you can see exactly what's been received and what's still outstanding — period by period. See Document Requests.

Why are some statement months still showing as missing after my client uploaded?

Coverage is tracked against the request's anchor date (base date). A "last 12 months" item, for example, expects the 12 months ending on that date. If the months your client uploaded fall outside that window, or some months in the range haven't arrived yet, they'll show as still needed. Check the request's anchor date and the per-account breakdown in View status or the Summary.

You control the expiration when sharing. Options include 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, never, or a custom date.

Can I see when someone views a shared document?

Yes! Infera tracks when shared documents are viewed and downloaded. See Tracking Views.

Security

Is my data secure?

Yes. Infera uses industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). We're SOC 2 compliant and regularly audited.

Can I enable two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication settings are not currently available in the app. Contact support for assistance enabling 2FA on your account.

Who can see my documents?

Only you and team members you've explicitly shared with. Admins can see all firm documents. External recipients can only see documents shared with them.

What happens if I delete a document?

Deleted documents are moved to trash and permanently deleted after 30 days. You can restore documents from trash before then.
