Documents From a Combined Upload

If a file you upload actually contains several documents — for example, a single bank export covering six months of statements, or a scanned batch of paystubs — Infera Law automatically splits it into individual documents behind the scenes. A Split into N badge on the file's row shows how many documents Infera Law found inside. The documents list only shows the file you uploaded; the documents Infera Law found inside it live in that file's expanded view.

To see them:

  1. Click the uploaded file to expand its row
  2. Under Document Details, extracted data appears in the table that matches its type:
    • Bank, credit-card, brokerage, retirement, and loan statements appear under Account Statements
    • Paystubs, tax returns, W-2s, and insurance policies keep their own detailed tables
    • 1099s, Schedule K-1s, business tax returns, deeds, promissory notes, loan applications, financial affidavits, and court orders appear under Other Records, with their type, issuer, date, and key details
  3. On an account statement row, click the small file icon to open that statement's own PDF — not the original combined file
  4. Anything Infera Law split out that doesn't fit one of those categories appears under Other Documents, where you can see its detected category, summary, and confidence before downloading it

Each split document is named automatically using your firm's naming template. When Infera Law renames a document, its original uploaded filename stays visible in muted text just beneath the new name, so nothing is lost. See Document Naming to customize the template.

Documents by Account

On a matter's Documents tab, switch the view to By Account (alongside Organized and As Received — see Organizing with Folders) to see every received document — across all parties — grouped by financial account instead of by folder or upload. This is useful for confirming you have a complete set of statements for a given account. The account view respects any filters you've applied and includes documents Infera Law split out of combined uploads, each linking to its own file.

Duplicate Uploads

If you upload a file that is byte-for-byte identical to one already in the matter, Infera Law recognizes it as a duplicate. The file is kept — it stays visible in the list and you can still download it — but Infera Law doesn't process it a second time or pull its data into affidavits again.

A duplicate is marked with a Duplicate status badge, and a Duplicate of: [original filename] line appears under its name so you can see which upload it matches. Duplicates are caught no matter how the file arrived — a direct upload, a drag-and-drop, or a file inside an uploaded zip.

To review just the duplicates in a matter, open the documents filter panel and choose Duplicate under Document Status.

Document Information

View document details by clicking the Info icon:

  • File name and type
  • File size
  • Upload date and time
  • Uploaded by
  • Last modified
  • Share status

A document a client submitted through a shared upload link shows Uploaded via link, with the party it came in for, instead of an internal user's name.
