The Client Upload Experience
When you send a client a document request link, they open a guided upload page that does two things no email attachment ever could: it tells them exactly what's still missing, and it updates in real time as Infera reads each file they send. No account, no software, no guesswork.
This page walks through what your client sees — and why it gets your documents back faster and more complete.
Opening the Link
Your client clicks the secure link you shared. There's nothing to install and no account to create. They land on a page topped by your firm's branding — your logo and colors, if you've set them up (see Branding Your Client Portal) — headed with:
- Your firm name (or logo) in the top bar
- The request title (e.g. "Initial Disclosure")
- The matter it's for, the base date, and the due date
- Any instructions you wrote
From there the page is split into two halves: upload on the left, a live "What's still needed" checklist on the right.
Uploading Is Just Drag-and-Drop
The client drags files onto the page (or clicks to browse). They can drop many files at once. Each file shows a live upload progress bar, and the moment it lands it's marked uploaded · queued for analysis. A burst of confetti confirms a successful upload — a small touch that makes a tedious task feel finished.
Real-Time Analysis — No Refresh Needed
This is what sets the experience apart. As soon as a file is uploaded, Infera starts reading it in the background, and the page updates itself automatically — the client never has to reload.
Each file moves through clear, visible states:
- Queued — waiting to be read
- Analyzing — Infera is reading it (shown with a live animated indicator)
- Analyzed ✓ — done
As each file finishes, a plain-language summary of what Infera actually found appears under it. For example:
- A bank statement: the institution, the account's last four digits and type, and the statement months detected — e.g. "Bank of America …4032 (checking) · 3 statements: Jan 23, Feb 23, Mar 23."
- Pay stubs: how many were found
- Tax returns and W-2s: the years detected
- Insurance: the number of policies found
If a file's contents fall outside the period you asked for, the client sees a gentle heads-up — "⚠ outside window" — so they know it won't count toward the request and can send the right one instead. This turns "I uploaded something" into "I uploaded the right thing."
"What's Still Needed" — Visible Immediately
The right-hand panel is a live checklist of everything you requested, shown from the very first visit — so the client knows the full scope before they upload a single file.
At the top, a progress bar tracks completion: "3 of 12 received — 25%." As files are analyzed, items flip from outstanding to received and the bar advances on its own.
Every requested item shows a status at a glance:
- Received / Complete — you have it
- Partial — some of it is in, some is still missing
- Outstanding — nothing received yet
- Awaiting upload — expected once the client uploads their first document of that type
Down to the Exact Missing Period
For financial items, the checklist doesn't just say "incomplete" — it shows precisely which pieces are missing, as colored chips:
- Account statements (bank, credit card, investment): each account is listed with its month-by-month coverage — green chips for months received, red chips for months still missing — plus a "covered of expected" count. A client can see at a glance that, say, March and July are the only two months they still owe for a specific account.
- Pay stubs, tax returns, W-2s, insurance: the same green-received / red-missing chips across the requested periods.
Any per-item instructions you added appear right inline, so the client knows what each item is and how to get it.
Why It Sells Itself
- Fewer back-and-forth emails — the client always knows what's left without asking
- More complete responses — missing months are impossible to overlook when they're red on the screen
- Right documents the first time — out-of-window warnings catch the wrong statement before it wastes a round-trip
- A modern, reassuring impression — a clean, guided, real-time page reflects well on your firm
- Zero friction — no account, works on a phone, drag-drop-done
You See the Same Thing, Live
While your client uploads, the matching view on your side updates in real time too. From the matter's Document Requests tab you can watch items arrive and open a printable Received / Still needed summary at any moment. See Document Requests for the attorney-side view.
