Creating a Matter
Matters are how you organize cases in Infera. Each matter represents a client or case and contains all related documents, financial data, and affidavits.
Starting the Matter Wizard
- Click New Matter from the dashboard or sidebar
- The matter creation wizard will guide you through setup
Matter Wizard Steps
The wizard walks you through five steps. The matter is created at Step 1, so if you leave at any later point the matter — and anything you've already added — is kept.
Step 1: Matter Details
Enter the details for the matter:
- Name - A name to identify this case (e.g., "Smith Divorce" or "Johnson v. Johnson")
- Case Number - Court case number (if assigned)
- Case Type - Select the type of case (divorce, custody, etc.)
- Date of Filing - Used as the default anchor date for document requests
- County, Division, Circuit, State - Court information used on affidavit forms
The matter is created when you continue to the next step.
Step 2: First Party (Petitioner)
Add the first party — typically the petitioner — with their name, role, and contact details. This party is used when pre-filling financial affidavits.
Step 3: Second Party (Respondent)
Add the second party — typically the respondent. The wizard uses this party as the default recipient for the document request in the next step.
Step 4: Document Request
Create an initial document request to collect financial disclosures:
- Title - Defaults to "Initial Disclosure"
- Requesting documents from - The party who will upload (defaults to the respondent)
- Anchor date - The base date that document windows are measured back from (defaults to the matter's filing date)
- Due date - Optional; when set, the party receives automatic reminder emails as it approaches
Standard financial disclosures — bank statements, credit card statements, tax returns, pay stubs, W-2s, and insurance policies — are included automatically based on your firm's standard windows.
Click Create Request, or choose Skip for now to go straight to the matter without creating one.
Step 5: Share
The wizard shows the secure client upload link for the request you just created. Copy it and send it to your client by email or text — they don't need an account, and you'll be notified as their documents are analyzed.
Click Go to matter to finish.

- Data flows automatically into financial affidavits
Track Document Requests

- See which items have been received and which are still outstanding
