Document Templates
Document templates are reusable checklists that pre-populate a document request with a standard set of items — so you don't rebuild the same list for every matter.
Where to Find Templates
- Click Settings in the firm sidebar
- Open the Document Templates tab
Templates are managed at the firm level and are available across all of your matters.
Standard Templates
Infera ships with standard templates covering the documents commonly required for family law disclosure, organized by state — for example, a template reflecting Florida's mandatory disclosure requirements. A template tagged with a state shows a state badge (e.g. FL), and one template can be marked as the Default that's applied to new requests.
These standard templates are a starting point. You can use them as-is, edit them to fit how your firm works, or build your own from scratch.
Customizing a Template
Click a template to expand it and see its items. From there you can:
- Edit an item — click the pencil icon
- Remove an item — click the trash icon
- Add an item — click Add item
- Rename the template — click the pencil icon next to its name
- Delete the template — click the trash icon (this cannot be undone)
Item Types
Each item in a template is one of two kinds:
Financial item — a tracked financial document type with a coverage window. Choose the type:
- Tax Returns
- Bank Statements
- Credit Card Statements
- Pay Stubs
- W-2s / IRS Forms
- Investment Reports
- Insurance Policies
Then set the window — a count and unit (e.g. 12 months or 3 years). Infera uses this window, measured back from the request's anchor date, to know which periods to expect and to track coverage period by period.
Custom item — a free-form item with a label (e.g. "Deed to marital home"). Use these for anything that isn't one of the standard financial types.
For either kind you can add:
- A description — shown to your staff
- Instructions — shown to the client on their upload page
Creating a New Template
- On the Document Templates tab, click New template
- Enter a name (e.g. "Florida Mandatory Disclosure")
- Optionally enter a state (a two-letter code, e.g. FL)
- Click Create template
- Expand the new template and add items
Using a Template in a Document Request
When you create a document request, choose your template under Start from template and its items are pre-populated. You can still edit the items for that specific request afterward — changes there don't affect the saved template.
If you don't pick a template, Infera adds its standard set of financial documents automatically.
Best Practices
- Tailor a template per state - Keep a template that matches each jurisdiction you practice in
- Set sensible windows - Match the count and unit to what your court expects (e.g. 3 years of tax returns)
- Write client-facing instructions - The instructions field appears on the client's upload page, so spell out exactly what each item is
- Reuse, then tweak - Start from a template and adjust per request rather than building each list by hand
